Brooke and Caitlyn begin to look over their book keeping the night before the farmers markets inside the combination green house and office they built themselves. “We’ve got everything pretty well covered as far as supplies and seeds and gas and what not,” says Caitlyn. “We only pay ourselves 10,000.00 a year after expenses so if we broke that down to an hourly wage it would be a joke.” “We know this isn’t a sustainable business in a city like San Francisco,” says Brooke. “But it’s not about that. It’s about community and having great food and healthy produce.” Despite the unknown fate of the little city gardens Caitlyn and Brooke continue to work hard with very little financial return. “It’s a labor of love.” says Brooke. “Pure love.”
